Winter 2012 Game Recap

3/27/12: Average Joes Edge Ravens 3-2 in Shootout
The Ravens looked to rebound against the Average Joes after having their seven game winning streak snapped last Tuesday by the Oasis. The Average Joes scored the lone goal of the first period with 3:45 remaining on the clock. No scoring occurred in the second, but the Average Joes were able to boost their lead to 2-0 with 11:27 remaining in the third period. The Ravens finally found some light when Jerry Zampella found a loose puck in the crease and got the Ravens on the board with just under 10 minutes to play. Doug Pollard evened the score with 3:06 remaining, but neither team was able score in the remainder of regulation. In the shootout, the Average Joes broke a scoreless drought for both teams in the third round to get the victory. Mark Baccoli made 29 saves on 31 shots in the game.

3/20/12: Oasis Stun First Place Ravens 3-2
Coming off the Weekend Hockey Tournament, the Ravens hold an 0-5 lifetime record returning to league play at TBSA. Looking to end that streak on Tuesday, the Ravens took on the (2-8) Oasis. The Ravens were tied at one goal a piece after the first period, as Todd Tanck scored the lone goal, assisted by Fred Pascalli. The Ravens took the lead in the second on a goal from Nate Roberts, before the Oasis evened the score at two going into the third period. The Oasis capitalized on a short handed opportunity mid way through the period and held off the Ravens for the remainder of the game. Mark Baccoli made 18 saves in the game.   

3/13/12: Ravens Even Series With Ice Men, Win 6-1
The Ravens had one goal to accomplish this game; defeat the team that handed them their only loss of the season seven weeks ago. Nate Roberts stepped up to score the lone goal of the first period at the 13:45 mark. The Ice Men evened the score in the second, before the Ravens scored four unanswered to coast into the third period, leading 5-1. Second period goal scorers were Doug Pollard, Kevin Vey, Fred Pascalli, and Jerry Zampella. Zampella added his second of the game at 4:56 of the third to give the Ravens their seventh consecutive win, finishing a complete sweep of all seven teams in the league. Mark Baccoli made 27 saves in the game.

2/21/12: Ravens Shut Out New Utes Team 2-0
The Ravens have been getting the job done in recent weeks, and looked to continue their efforts against a team they've never played before. The Utes, new to the league this season have posted an impressive 4-2 record. They also carry former Ravens goal scorer, Mike Petroules, playing against his former team for the first time.

The first period went scoreless until the 7:41 mark, when Jerry Zampella slid the puck under the Utes' goaltender for the 1-0 advantage. After a scoreless second, the game was still one shot away from being tied. Jerry Zampella worked his way into the zone and tallied his second of the game in the empty net with 0:04 remaining. Mark Baccoli made 21 saves to earn his first shutout of the season. The Ravens improved to 6-1 on the season and have won their last four games.

2/14/12: Ravens Outlast Badgers 3-2, Win Third Straight
After twelve minutes without a goal, Jerry Zampella scooped up the change in front of the net to give the Ravens a one goal advantage. The Badgers evened the game at the 13:09 mark of the second, before Zampella scored his second of the game 2:03 later. Scott Rhone netted the eventual game-winner at 10:32 of the third period. The Badgers were able to put one more on the board before the end of the period, but couldn't get their goaltender out of the net as the Ravens were able to run out the clock. Mark Baccoli made 15 saves in the game. 

1/31/12: Ravens Beat Oasis 4-1, Play 100th Stat Game
By completing their game on January 31st against the Oasis, the Ravens have now played 100 league games since stat recording was introduced roughly two years ago. The team's history goes far beyond the past two years, but a major mile stone was hit in the team's recent stat era. In these 100 games, the Ravens have compiled an astonishing combined record of 70-21-9, outscoring opponents 481 to 243, while racking up 897 penalty minutes. They've captured six league championships in three different TBSA leagues, one Weekend Hockey tournament championship, and hold an unprecedented 16-1-2 playoff record.

In their 100th game, the Ravens did the majority of their damage over the first two periods, surrendering only seven shots during this span. In the first period, Jerry Zampella got the Ravens on the board at the 13:54 mark, before the Oasis tied the game three minutes later. Kevin Vey scored with 3:56 remaining to give the Ravens the 2-1 edge after one. Scott Rhone padded the Ravens' lead at 4:29 of the second period to give the Ravens a 3-1 advantage after two. Todd Tanck put the icing on the cake with 2:48 remaining in the game to finish off a 4-1 win. Mark Baccoli made 25 saves in the game, including an 18 for 18 effort in the third period.

1/24/12: Ice Men Freeze Ravens 5-4
The Ravens took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal from Todd Tanck, before the Ice Men scored twice. The Ravens' Fred Pascalli was able to tie the game before the period ended, but the Ice Men were able to score to take a 3-2 lead into the third period. After trailing 4-2, Scott Rhone closed the gap to a single goal. A couple minutes later, the Ice Men scored the eventual game winner, as Mark Cavanagh's late goal was not enough. Mark Baccoli made 18 saves in the game. 

1/17/12: Ravens Defeat Raiders 6-2 to Continue Strong Start
The Ravens looked to continue their unbeaten start against a team they lost to in consolation play just a few weeks ago. The Phantoms struck first just 10 seconds into the first period before Fred Pascalli and Kevin Vey gave the Ravens a 2-1 edge after one. The Ravens put the game away in the second period, scoring three unanswered goals fro Jerry Zampella, Pascalli, and Scott Rhone. Zampella added one more in the third to complete a dominating performance. Mark Baccoli made 26 saves in the game.
